In the Footsteps of Muhammad (PBUH) - (6)

Etiquettes of Wearing Clothes
The Messenger of Allah B used to wear whatever was available; a waist-sheet, a loincloth, a shirt, or a cloak. He preferred to wear white clothes. He [said concerning them]: "Let the living among you wear them and enshroud the dead therewith." He had a cloak dyed with saffron and sometimes he would perform the prayer wearing it. He would wear only one garment. He would wear a waist-sheet only tying up its two ends between his shoulders. He would lead the people in the funeral prayer wearing it. He would perform prayer in his house wearing that waist-sheet. It might happen that he wore that waist-sheet while having sexual intercourse with one of his wives.

He wore a ring and took a seal to seal his letters therewith. He would wear a skull cap under his turban, and sometimes he would not wear a turban. If there was not a turban, he would tie his head with a band. He used to wear his garment or footwear beginning with his right side praying unto Allah: "Praise be to Allah Who granted it to me to cover my `awrah and to embellish myself among people." He had a mattress of palm fibes to sleep on. Sometimes he would sleep on a mat.
