Salaah (Prayer) is the second pillar
of Islam and is the most important one of all. It is the pillar of religion,
hence whoever neglects it verily destroys religion and is not a believer. Performing
Salaah five times a day is mandatory for every able and mature Muslim. It energizes
your life and nourishes your soul and this help you to fight all Satanic
temptations to do evil.
"Surely
prayer restrains from indecent and evil acts And the remembrance of Allah is
surely greater, and Allah knows what you do."[29:45]
The
objective of this concise topic is to explain how Ibadhi perform Salaah according
to Prophet Mohammed B
saying: "Pray as you have seen me praying". Hadith related by
Bukhari.
The
main points of difference between Ibadhi School and other Islamic schools - in
the subject of Salah- can be summarized as follows:
1)
The Ibadhis hold that there is no raising of the hands in the opening Takbeer
or at any other time in the prayer.
2)
The Ibadhis hold that only the opening chapter of the Quran (Al-Fatiha) is to
be recited in the Dhuhr and Asr prayers.
3)
The Ibadhi scholars reject Qunut and hold that those prayers said with the Imam
who performs Qunut are futile and should be offered again.
4)
The Ibadhis do not say "Ameen" after reciting Al-Fatiha during prayers.
5)
The fifth point of difference is about prayers during travel (Salaat
al-Safar).There is a number of items on which Ibadhis differ from some or all
other Sunni schools.
Please
refer to the book "Studies in Ibadhism" pages 92-94 for more details.
How to perform Salah according to Ibadhi Madhhab?
Having
cleansed yourself by Wudhu (ablution), you may proceed to perform Salaah
(prayer). Wudhu is a ritual cleansing.
Note: By way of an example, the performance of Salaat
Al-Fajr (The Dawn Prayer) will be illustrated.
Salaat Al-Fajr has got two rak'as and each of them
requires another sura in addition to Al-Fatiha.
The intention is the desire to pray. This is done in the heart.
The Iqamah (this is recited by everyone when praying alone), and is as follows:

The worshipper recites only Al-Fatiha
[taking into consideration when to recite sura after Al-Fatiha].
After the third Rak'a of Maghrib
prayer, and the fourth Rak'a of Dhuhr, Asr and Isha prayers, the worshipper
recites the Last Tashahud and terminates his prayers by saying: "
AS'SALAAM ALAIKUM " while turning first to the right, and second to
the left saying: "WA RAHMATUL LLAH" as it has been explained before.

ReplyDeleteBrothers this is great!! but also make a step by step like this one demonstrating how to pray Taraweeh
Shukran
Thank you for this brief discourse on Ibadhi prayers. I also concur with the anonymous above that this is great. However, you explained some main points of differences between Ibadhi School and other Islamic schools. I wonder why these points of difference come in schools while the Hadith related by Bukhari, states that Prophet Mohammed said: "Pray as you have seen me praying". Does this mean that one school (Sunni or ibadhi) has gone against the instruction of the Prophet? To make this query short, I feel that it would be very instructive if you had given some clues on Sunni and Ibadhi precise reasons for the difference from the Hadiths of the Prophet. I mean for example, what Hadith is depended by Ibadhi for keeping hands straight on either side of the body and one that led Sunni to fold them on the breast, etc.
ReplyDeleteSome of us simply go by available evidence from Hadith of the Prophet rather than by what schools cling on. For example, I personally don't care to abandon item in Sunni Salah for what Ibadh one, once I get convinced that there is what the Prophet did. Remember the Bukhari Hadith. Thank you.

I wonder why these items of differences come in schools while the Hadith related by Bukhari, states that Prophet Mohammed said: "Pray as you have seen me praying". Does this mean that one school (Sunni or ibadhi) has gone against the instruction of the Prophet? To make this query short, I feel that it would be very instructive if you had given some clues on precise reasons for the differences from the Hadiths of the Prophet. I mean for example, what Hadith is depended by Ibadhi for keeping hands straight on either side of the body and what evidence led the Sunni to fold them on the breast, etc.
Some of us simply go by available evidence from Hadith of the Prophet rather than by what schools cling on. For example, I personally don't care to abandon an item in Sunni Salah for what Ibadhi confirms that's the one that is authentic as far as Prophets way of praying is concerned. Remember the Bukhari Hadith. Thank you.
Assalamu Alaycom,
ReplyDeleteAni@: I'm Ibadhi and as far as I know, the reason why we perform the prayer the way we do it, is the famous Hadith called in Arabic "Hadith almoussi'u ila salatih", in this Hadith the Prophet Mohammed PBUH describes the prayer step by step. Allah knows everything
What you said is correct, in that Hadith the rafa ul yadain (i.e. raising of hands) in the beginning of Salah is not mentioned but, ameen, after Imam recites Fatihah is mentioned. Which would mean Ibadhi's only comply with a part of Hadith and reject the other. Secondly there are numerous Ahadith in which Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi was'sallam) performed rafa ul yadain in beginning of the prayers and even while entering into ruku and coming out of it.

ReplyDeleteAlhamdulillah. If prayer is the single act that determines who enters paradise, then that must be observed according to our leader Muhammad Rasulullah unless his acts are not the weight. I do not see any Muslim obsrve that in congregation. You may read:

Assalamo Alaikum. I am a Pakistani Muslim man. I have only recently come to know about the Ibadi's way of living as a muslim. It is very astonishing for me to find that Ibadis match the most to what I believe. I cannot fit into Sunnis and Shias but nearly perfectly fit to Ibadi Muslim ideologies. I want to become a practicing Ibadi muslim. Please help me join an Ibadi community in Pakistan, if there is any. Please email me a kdervaish@gmail.com
