There is a Reward for Serving Any Animate

Abu Obeida reported from Jabir that Abu Hurayra narrated that the the Prophet (PBUH) said, "While a man was walking on the way he became extremely thirsty. The he found a well. He went down into it, drank (of its water) and came out. Upon leaving it, he saw a dog panting and eating moist earth out of thirst. Then the man said, "This dog is suffering from the same state of thirst as I did." So he descended into the well, filled up his slipper with water, and holding it with his mouth, climbed up and watered the dog. So Allah thanked him for that and forgave him." Then the people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?" He said, "There is a reward for serving any animate (living being)."
