In the Footsteps of Muhammad (PBUH) - (8)

His Generosity and Benevolence
The Messenger of Allah B was the most generous and the most benevolent. He was more freehanded than the wind especially in the month of Ramadan. He was the most long suffering, the most truthful, the purest in intention, the most persistent in determination, and the noblest in lineage.

Seeing him for the first time inspired awe in man and mixing with him stirred love in one's heart. One described him saying, 'I have never seen any one like him.' He was never asked to give anything by the right of Islam except he gave it.'

Anas narrated, 'A man came to the Prophet B and he gave him some sheep in a valley. When the man went to his people, he said to them, 'Accept Islam, for Muhammad gives donations to him who fears not poverty.' [Collected by Ahmad]

He was never asked for anything but he granted what was asked. Once, an amount of nine hundred thousand dirhams was brought to him. He put them on a mat and distributed them. All were given away. When he returned from Hunain, some nomads asked him and he gave to them. It was narrated that while he was with Allah's Messenger B who was accompanied by the people on their way back from Hunain, the nomads started begging things of him, so much so that they forced him to go under a thorny tree where his upper waist-sheet was snatched away. At that, Allah's Messenger stood up and said to them, "Return my garment to me. If I had as many camels as these trees, I would have distributed them amongst you; and you would not find me a miser, a liar, or a coward." [Collected by Al-Bukhari]
